Chinlone: Myanmar’s national sport preserving tradition, well-being

(MENAFN) Chinlone, Myanmar's traditional national sport, boasts a rich history spanning over 1,500 years and remains deeply embedded in the country’s cultural heritage. "More than just a game, Chinlone is an art form that blends movement with traditional music, creating a unique performance of skill and rhythm," stated Win Tint, Vice President of the Myanmar Chinlone Federation.

Originally created for royal entertainment and physical well-being, Chinlone became an officially recognized sport in 1953. Today, both seasoned athletes and young enthusiasts continue to keep the spirit of the sport alive, with efforts to preserve and promote Chinlone growing across Myanmar.

To advance the sport, the federation has organized local competitions, offered systematic training, and prepared players for international events. Additionally, an annual conference is held to explore ways to enhance and safeguard Chinlone, according to Win Tint.

For older generations, Chinlone provides a remedy for loneliness and stress, while for the youth, it offers a healthy alternative to video games and drug addiction.
